The Aspen Centre of Environmental Studies has been providing locals and visitors the opportunity to explore everything Aspen's terrain has to offer for over 50 years. Activities and seminars range from agriculture education, training Naturalists, youth classes and many more, all focused on the education and preservation of Aspen’s local ecosystem. Whether you are on a family vacation or a getaway with friends, they have you covered. Adults and kids alike have the opportunity to learn about Aspen’s wildlife and see nature first hand. Throughout the year, the ACES holds a range of events and programs designed to explore Aspen’s surroundings.

In the month of October, ACES will focus on one of the most majestic creatures in the are, elks! As we take a step closer to winter, the cool temperatures and changing of the leaves are the perfect backdrop to catch a glimpse of the Rocky Mountain Elk Rut. For those wondering what an Elk Rut is, it refers to the mating season of elks which take place between August to mid-October. If you are lucky you might hear the elks bulge or see them challenge each other to a battle. The two-hour hiking trail to view these magnificent creatures will be held at the North Star Preserve. Will Cardamone will lead the group into the preserve, unseen by the animals while educating you on these wild creatures.
