How To Plan Wheelchair-Accessible Vacations

Vacations are for everyone, no matter who you are or where you come from. With our help, you can plan an exceptional, wheelchair-accessible vacation!

Vacations are universally shared joys. However, this dream might look a little different for wheelchair users. Planning wheelchair-accessible vacations is much like planning other trips, but you must keep accessibility at the forefront of your accommodations and activities. Ensure your next holiday is remarkable with our guide to planning the wheelchair-accessible vacation of your dreams!

Why Accessible Travel Is Important

The importance of accessible travel goes beyond convenience; it’s about everyone’s right to experience the world and bridging equality and inclusion. Lodging accommodations must meet your needs, and your destination should have wheelchair-user-friendly activities. Accessible travel is the first step in creating experiences without barriers.

Understanding Accessibility Needs

Wheelchair-accessible travel begins with understanding your needs and how different transportation and destinations cater to you. For instance, you’ll need to book a flight with aisles wide enough to accommodate your wheelchair and hotel rooms with roll-in showers; these necessities guarantee a comfortable vacation.

Planning Your Itinerary

An accessible itinerary is an opportunity to discover welcoming places. Plan your itinerary with wheelchair-friendly attractions and activities, and seek out restaurants and services equipped for accessibility. Many websites and smartphone apps can make this search easy, but don’t forget to create a backup plan in case something doesn’t work out.

Packing Essentials

When packing for a wheelchair-accessible vacation, think not just about clothes and toiletries but also about essential mobility aids, medications, and accessibility tools. If you’re a frequent traveler, there are compelling reasons to choose a foldable wheelchair to make travel easier. Who doesn’t want a compact wheelchair that makes transportation that much easier? Ensure you have your essentials ready to go so you’re comfortable the entire vacation.

Navigating Challenges

No journey is without its challenges, and accessible travel is no different. Be prepared for unexpected obstructions, and pack a healthy dose of patience. Seize these moments as an opportunity to advocate for yourself and accessibility rights. Every barrier you overcome creates a more inclusive travel landscape for all.

Community Recommendations

Your community is one of the most impactful resources for planning your trip. Engage with online forums, social media groups, and organizations within the disability community to hear about others’ travel experiences and recommendations. Consider checking out our vacation rentals at Travel en Vogue to find your next trip!

Whether it’s a spontaneous day trip or a meticulously planned week-long vacation, knowing how to plan a wheelchair-accessible vacation allows you to embrace the world without limitations. Here’s to a future where travel truly knows no bounds!

Even Kuta, known for its vibrant nightlife, offers tranquility through laid-back beach days or retreats to the blissful spa scene.

Costa Rica: Where Eco-Luxury Meets Restfulness

Costa Rica beckons the weary with its mantra of pura vida, a gentle reminder to appreciate life’s simple pleasures. Rest in the shadow of Arenal, an idyllic volcano offering volcanic hot springs and thermal spas. Visit Manuel Antonio National Park’s deserted beaches, home to troops of capuchin monkeys. Perhaps most serene of all, the Osa Peninsula’s rainforest and remote lodges provide the ultimate escape for eco-luxury and a wildlife symphony that will lull you into deep relaxation.

Maldives: The Ultimate Aquatic Oasis

Embark on a tranquil voyage to the Maldives, an archipelago of 26 atolls that redefine the color blue. Here, the Indian Ocean is the heartbeat and the overwater bungalows are your sanctuary. Dive among the coral gardens, where turtles gently glide and hop from one deserted sandbank to another, each one more tranquil than the last. Drift below the waves to meet the ocean’s gentle giants at the site known for whale shark sightings or lose track of time in a peaceful Maldivian spa.

Now that you have a list of five relaxing destinations for your next vacation, you can book your next trip with ease. With careful planning and an open heart, any of these destinations can become your go-to spot for complete serenity. So switch off, take a deep breath, and let the journey toward relaxation begin.

Bike Ride

You can get outside and experience the wondrous natural beauty of Aspen and the surrounding area in many ways without the benefit of snow and a pair of skis, like taking a bike ride. Plenty of trails and options are available, whether you prefer to stick to smooth road cycling or want to get adventurous with mountain biking!

There’s the Rio Grande Trail, 42 miles of amazing vistas as you head toward Glenwood Springs, or visit the Roaring Fork Valley, one of the few gold-level mountain biking centers recognized by the International Mountain Bicycling Association! Don’t worry if you didn’t bring your bike, plenty of places offer rentals.

Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is one of the most popular activities for locals and visitors in the spring, summer, and fall if you prefer a more aquatic, easygoing adventure! It’s an incredible way to experience the high-alpine lakes and streams of the Rocky Mountains, and there’s no shortage of places to see.

Aspen is also an excellent off-roading destination if you’re the more adventurous type and love to drive on untamed and wild terrain! Many adventure tour companies in the area will take you toward the summit of Aspen on hour-long adventures through the challenging but beautiful terrain, or you can rent or bring your off-road vehicle! But ensure you understand the rules for off-roading every driver should know before you get behind the wheel if you’re inexperienced.

Whitewater Rafting

There’s no shortage of whitewater rafting options in Aspen for those seeking a water adventure! The Roaring Fork River, Colorado River, and Arkansas River are all great options for whitewater rafting, and many tour guide companies will give you a day of fun and gorgeous views of the rivers and surrounding areas.

Fly Fishing

While it may be the off-season for skiing, summer is the best time for fly fishing! Aspen is an incredible location for fly fishing, whether you’re an experienced angler or don’t know a thing about fishing but want to try it. The Colorado River and Frying Pan River are excellent fly-fishing spots in the summer, and you can hire a guide to show you the ropes and help you catch your dinner!

How To Find the Best Resort for Your Destination Wedding

Every engaged couple wants the perfect location for their wedding. Here are some top tips for finding the best resort for your destination wedding.

If you are recently engaged, you may now be thinking about the finer details of wedding planning. One important aspect you should consider as soon as possible is the location of your wedding. If you choose to have a destination wedding, you will need to find a resort that can accommodate your wedding party. Here is some top advice on how to find the best resort for your destination wedding.

Finalize Your Guest List Count

Choosing the perfect resort for your destination wedding starts with understanding your guest list size. Knowing the size of your wedding group is pivotal when selecting a venue in order to accommodate everyone comfortably. You should have a clear count of your guest list before scouting resorts; this clarity will help you filter out options that are too small or unnecessarily large for your wedding.

Determine Your Travel Budget

Next, you need to determine your travel budget. This proposed budget should account for the cost of flights, accommodations, and other expenses. A realistic budget helps narrow down resort options that align with your financial plan. Remember, a destination wedding isn’t just about the big day; it’s also about the journey and your stay, so allocate your budget wisely to cover all aspects.

Decide on the Vision for Your Wedding

Your wedding vision sets the tone for the entire event. Are you dreaming of a beachfront ceremony or a lavish ballroom reception? Deciding on the theme and atmosphere of your wedding early on will help you select a resort that aligns with your vision. Whether you want to hold a beautiful outdoor event—which you can class up with a porta potty and other essential elements—or opt for a more traditional indoor setting, your resort must complement your desired aesthetic.

Create a List of Amenities You Care About

Create a list of the amenities that are crucial for your wedding experience. These amenities can range from spa services to gourmet dining options. Knowing which amenities you value most will help you cross off resorts that don’t meet your standards. It’s all about balancing luxury and practicality—a resort that offers a beautiful backdrop and services that cater to your needs.

Consider the Resort’s Distance From the Airport

Think about the resort’s proximity to the nearest airport. A resort far from the airport might offer privacy and exclusivity, but it can also mean longer travel times for you and your guests. Selecting a resort with reasonable accessibility reduces travel fatigue and simplifies logistics, making the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Be Realistic With Your Expectations

Lastly, keep your expectations realistic. Every resort has its unique charm and limitations. While it’s important to dream big, understanding what is achievable within your budget and timeframe is crucial. Taking a practical approach will help you find a resort that looks good on paper and delivers a memorable and stress-free wedding experience.

Finding the best resort for your destination wedding involves careful consideration of the factors outlined above. Each step is essential to ensuring your big day is as perfect as you’ve envisioned. Remember, it’s not just about the location; it’s about creating a beautiful, harmonious experience that you and your guests will cherish forever.

Consider the Ritz Carlton Club in St. Thomas US Virgin Islands

Coupons for Savings During Your Trip to the Ritz Carlton Club St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — Two siblings who attend the Antilles School in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands have come up with a fun way to earn money not only for their extracurricular activities, but for other students and charities as well.

Ethan and Mia Ronen created two products, Classic VI for U.S.V.I. locals and Curated VI for tourists. Curated VI is a coupon book for 2024 filled with 45 coupons from local businesses within the area of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands for dining, health and wellness, cultural activities, boating, retail and water activities.

With Classic VI, the siblings are allowing local sports teams to sell the books and keep the net proceeds for themselves to help with travel costs for state side competitions.

Both siblings are a part of the St. Thomas - St. John Scholastic Chess Club. Additionally, Ethan is a ninth-grader who plays on the school’s flag football team and Mia is an 11th-grader on the Antilles Sailing Team.

Both students realized that the costs for teams participating in competitions on the U.S. mainland can add up fast.

This caused the idea for the coupon book, Classic VI. They saw it as an opportunity to create a win-win situation for sports teams, businesses, and consumers alike.

Participating teams include the St. Thomas - St. John Scholastic Chess Club, Massey Soccer Association, St. Thomas Swimming Association, and the Antilles Sailing Team.

In turn, Mia and Ethan conceived of Curated VI as a way to guide visitors to some of the very best experiences on St. Thomas and St. John. The Curated VI coupon books are designed for tourists and new residents and sell for only $40. All coupons are valid through Dec. 31, 2024. The booklets, which contain 45 coupons, represent over $1500 in savings! Buyers can use just 1-3 coupons and recoup the purchase price.

They have had great responses from local businesses offering discounts. Deals in the book range from $25 off a $100 tab at the Easterly to $300 off on a private charter with Midnight Charters.

Sales of Curated VI will benefit local charities, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Thomas and St. John, Nana Baby Children’s Home, and an Arts and Music program for island seniors at the Strive Senior Center.

Coupons for Charity is a project sponsored by Vantage Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit based in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

For visitors interested in purchasing Curated VI, please visit https://www.couponsforcharityvi.org/ or you can contact nlo@vantagevi.org if you have any questions. Since the book is a great guide of activities on St. Thomas, a book can be ordered and sent to you for planning prior to your arrival.

If you’re looking to save during your upcoming trip to the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas Residence Club, there is no better way to do so than by helping local businesses, charities and youth activity programs!

4 Group Adventures To Enjoy in the Western US

Embark on luxury travels in the Western US with adventures such as skiing in Aspen, cruising Lake Tahoe, ranching in Tucson, and boating through Hells Canyon.

Few experiences are as luxurious as traveling. You can pick exactly where you want to stay and what you want to do, customizing your experience entirely. If you enjoy adventures, especially with groups of friends or family, then consider our list of four destinations and activities to enjoy in the western US.

1. World-Class Heli-Skiing in Aspen, Colorado

Embark on an exclusive adventure with Aspen Heli-skiing, a high-end outfitter that caters to affluent snow enthusiasts. This exhilarating journey begins as you head off on a helicopter to access pristine, untouched backcountry terrain for the skiing adventure of a lifetime. Other locations and outfitters around Aspen also provide excellent skiing, such as the Ritz Carlton Club Aspen Highlands. However, experienced skiers may want to invest part of their trip in heli-skiing somewhere new as well.

2. Cruises Around Lake Tahoe, California

While California is technically part of the Pacific region of the US, Lake Tahoe borders Nevada, which is part of the Western region. Experience the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe from the lap of luxury aboard a sightseeing cruise. You can select from various cruises around the lake, including sunset or happy hour cruises. Spend the daylight hours before these evening cruises splashing in the beautiful water or relaxing at the Ritz Carlton Club Lake Tahoe spa with your group.

3. Ranching in Tucson, Arizona

If you prefer a more active adventure than swimming and sightseeing or want to visit Arizona, consider traveling to the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson. They are an award-winning family-run ranch with excellent amenities and activities, such as a heated pool and tennis courts, as well as horseback riding and evening shows. While not as luxurious as the Ritz Carlton destinations described above, this group adventure offers something exciting for everyone. Other dude ranches also provide accommodations and activities if you can’t stay at the White Stallion.

4. Jet Boat Tours in Hells Canyon, Idaho

For a thrilling adventure combining stunning natural wonders with speed and excitement, a private jet boat tour through Hells Canyon in Idaho is perfect. While there are some pros and cons to private jet boat tours, we think the pros of custom excitement outweigh the cons of potential costs. Hells Canyon, America’s deepest river gorge, offers an unparalleled sightseeing adventure as your group navigates through turbulent white waters surrounded by towering cliffs. The Hells Canyon Grand Hotel in Lewiston offers resort-like accommodations nearby so that you can enjoy the entire area before or after your jet boat tour.

Variety truly is the spice of life, especially when it comes to luxury group adventures. These four places to enjoy in the western US each offer something different for your group, but all guarantee a unique experience for your next trip.

What To Do When You Feel Under the Weather While Traveling

Falling ill while traveling? Here’s a guide on how to handle feeling under the weather on the go, ensuring you get back on track as fast as possible.

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of exploring a new destination. However, if you find yourself feeling unwell during your journey, it can cast a shadow over your adventures. Here’s what to do when you feel under the weather while traveling.

Listen to Your Body

Tune into your body’s signals. Take a break if you feel exhausted, run-down, or just off. Pushing through and sticking to your itinerary might be tempting, but resting can prevent a minor ailment from becoming more serious. Prioritize your well-being above all.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished

Staying hydrated is crucial, especially if you’re battling a fever or upset stomach. Carry a reusable water bottle and drink regularly. Additionally, ensure you’re eating nutrient-rich foods, even in smaller quantities. The right nutrition can speed up recovery and boost your immune system.

Keep Essential Medications on Hand

Always pack a basic medical kit when traveling. It should contain essentials like pain relievers, fever reducers, antacids, and any prescription medications you might need. Having these on hand means you won’t have to scramble to find a pharmacy when you’re not feeling well.

Seek Local Medical Advice

If you’re in a foreign country and your condition isn’t improving, you should seek local medical advice. Hotel staff can often recommend trusted doctors or clinics. In some destinations, there are clinics specifically geared toward travelers. They can handle common travel-related illnesses.

Consider IV Therapy

IV therapy has gained popularity among frequent travelers. It’s a treatment that delivers fluids, vitamins, and sometimes medications directly into the bloodstream. For travelers needing a boost to their immune system, IV therapy offers rapid rehydration and can address symptoms like fatigue, nausea, and headaches. Some clinics even provide services tailored specifically for jet-lagged or dehydrated travelers.

Now that you know what to do when you feel under the weather while traveling, you can prepare for unexpected health hiccups. Remember, while travel is about making memories, your health should always come first. Take these precautions, and you’ll be ready to face and overcome any health challenges that come your way during your journeys.

Especially traveling to colder weather ski destinations, like the Ritz Carlton Club in Vail, CO, with the changing of temperature and altitude, climate and environmental factors can impact your body.

Tips for a Safe Off-Roading Adventure in the Snow

If you’re considering taking a trip to the Aspen Highlands Mountain and want to have fun this winter in your Jeep, you must follow certain guidelines. Heavy snowfall in these mountains may seem like a fun time, but if certain precautions aren’t met, they can take a turn for the worse. Explore a few of these tips for a safe off-roading adventure in the snow.

Snow Activities in Aspen Colorado

The thrill of embarking on an off-roading adventure in snowy terrain is indescribable. As your vehicle crunches over the fresh white powder and the winter sun glistens off the icy terrain, you feel an exhilarating sense of freedom. Yet, such beauty comes with its own set of challenges.

Navigating a vehicle over snowy landscapes requires an understanding of the environment to ensure safety. These essential tips for off-roading in snowy conditions will ensure you and your vehicle stay safe during your winter adventure.

Preparation Is Key

The first step in ensuring a successful snow off-roading adventure is thorough preparation. This includes a detailed inspection of your vehicle to ensure it’s in optimal condition. Pay special attention to your tires, which should be suitable for snowy conditions and have adequate tread depth. Also, ensure your heating system and lights function correctly.

Understand the Terrain

Navigating through snowy terrain requires an in-depth understanding of the landscape to stay on a safe path. Much of off roading does occur in the summer months in Aspen, however, not everyone adheres to these rules. Remember, snow can be deceiving, masking potential hazards like deep pits or large rocks. Always drive slowly and carefully. If possible, scout the area on foot before proceeding, especially if you have doubts about safety.

Keep Your Jeep Optimized and Ready

Keeping your Jeep optimized and ready with the necessary checks, tools, and supplies is crucial. Going on an off-roading adventure requires optimal performance, and following some easy Jeep repairs you can do yourself will help you achieve this. Also, keep items like a shovel to dig out of snow, a tow strap for emergency pulls, and a tire pressure gauge always inside your vehicle.

Use Low Gears and Maintain Momentum

Driving in snow demands careful handling, knowledge, and understanding of how to drive a Jeep. Use low gears to increase traction and avoid jerky movements that could lead to skidding. Also, maintain a steady momentum, especially when you’re moving uphill, to prevent getting stuck or sliding backward, which could be very dangerous.

Never Venture Alone

To safely off-road in the snow, you should always bring company with you because snowy conditions could be more challenging. Always have at least one other vehicle in your group and use radios to keep close communication and monitor each other. In case of an emergency, you can rely on each other.

Off-roading in the snow provides an exciting challenge. However, you must approach it with the right preparation, equipment, and mindset. Follow these tips and get ready for a memorable winter off-roading experience.

If you’re staying at the Ritz Carlton Club in Aspen, there are several nearby trails to go off-roading including:

1. Montezuma Basin at Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness (9.4 miles long)

2. Taylor Lake OHV Trail via Aspen Mountain at White River National Forest (36.1 miles long)

3. Taylor Pass at White River National Forest (14.5 miles long)

What To Consider When Selecting an Anniversary Destination

Are you planning a romantic getaway for your anniversary and trying to decide where to go? Here's what to consider when selecting an anniversary destination.

Choosing the perfect anniversary destination is an opportunity to celebrate your marital journey, create more beautiful memories, and deepen your bond. Whether it's a tranquil beach escape, a cultural city break, or an adventurous trek through the great outdoors, the choice of destination requires thoughtful consideration to ensure it resonates with both partners. We will discuss what to consider when selecting an anniversary destination to ensure you make the most of this milestone together.

Your Personal Preferences

When selecting your anniversary destination, your and your partner's personal preferences should be the first and foremost consideration. This celebration is about both of you, so choosing a location that embodies your shared interests and desires is one of the best tips for planning a unique wedding anniversary. For instance, if you and your partner enjoy basking in the sun, feeling the sand beneath your toes, and listening to the rhythmic lullaby of the waves, a tropical destination would be an ideal choice. This could be an opportunity to check out places in the Virgin Islands or other tropical destinations. Conversely, a charming ski village may be more suitable if you both find joy in the serene beauty of a snowy landscape, cuddling up by the fire after a day on the slopes. A Colorado getaway could be an ideal location in this case. Always remember, the destination is as special as the people celebrating.

The Available Amenities

The amenities at your chosen destination are just as crucial as your personal preferences. The presence of suitable accommodation, accessible transportation, diverse dining options, and entertaining activities significantly contribute to the success of your anniversary celebration. For instance, check the area's availability and quality of hotels or resorts. To check availability at the Ritz Carlton Club in St. Thomas, contact us here. Comfortable and luxurious lodging will enhance your relaxation and create a memorable experience. Additionally, consider the transportation system. Is it reliable? Can it conveniently take you to your desired locations? Gastronomic offerings are also essential. A destination with diverse restaurants allows you to indulge in local delicacies or enjoy your favorite cuisine. Lastly, remember to research on-site or nearby attractions and activities. These will provide entertainment and opportunities to create cherished memories during your stay. A location with comprehensive amenities will ensure you have everything you need for a special and unforgettable anniversary celebration.

Your Overall Budget

Your overall budget is another primary factor to consider when choosing an anniversary destination. Financial planning is integral to ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable getaway. Your budget must account for the cost of travel, accommodation, dining, and activities. Selecting a destination that offers you a delightful experience without causing financial strain is imperative. Remember, an extravagant vacation locale doesn't necessarily equate to a better celebration. The essence of the occasion lies in your companionship and shared experiences. With thoughtful planning and research, you can find destinations that fit your budget yet offer an array of amenities and experiences that cater to your tastes. This way, you can focus on celebrating your milestone in the most romantic way without worrying about breaking the bank.

Now that you know the things to consider when planning an anniversary trip, you can begin the process today. Ultimately, the perfect anniversary getaway is one that allows you both to celebrate your years of love and companionship in a setting that speaks to your shared experiences and interests.

Your Checklist for Choosing a Luxury Family-Friendly Resort

Choose the perfect family-friendly resort with our essential checklist, highlighting top amenities, activities, and safety tips for an unforgettable vacation.

Luxury Family Vacations in St. Thomas USVI

Planning the perfect family getaway can be daunting, especially when searching for the ideal destination that meets every family member’s needs. That’s when your checklist for choosing a luxury family-friendly resort comes in handy. Use a few of our valuable tips for selecting the perfect resort to keep your family entertained and engaged.

Kid-Friendly Activities

One of the most important factors to consider when searching for a family-friendly resort is the availability of kid-friendly activities. Look for resorts that offer a variety of recreational options to keep children entertained for hours.

For example, paddle boarding is great for kids because it keeps them active and engaged. Other kid-friendly activities might include swimming, mini-golf, playgrounds, etc. Resorts offering activities and equipment rentals will undoubtedly keep kids and parents happy during their vacations.

Dining Options for the Whole Family

When traveling with little ones, finding a resort that caters to everyone’s dietary needs and preferences is essential. Look for resorts with a diverse range of dining options, including kid-friendly menus, buffet-style meals, and options for healthier fare. Offerings such as allergen-free dishes or customizable meals will be a major plus for families with dietary restrictions.

Spacious and Comfortable Accommodations

After a long day of exploring and fun activities, your family will need a comfortable space to unwind and recharge. Choose a resort with various room configurations, including family suites or connecting rooms, to ensure that everyone has enough space and privacy. Look for resorts that offer additional amenities, such as in-room mini-fridges, cribs, or even babysitting services, for a stress-free vacation. Our personal recommendation for space and luxury is the highly sought-after Ritz Carlton and Timbers Residence Clubs – guaranteed to have all your needs in one!

Safety and Accessibility

When traveling with young children, safety and accessibility are key factors to consider. Choose a resort that prioritizes safety with features like lifeguard stations at pools, gated play areas, and well-lit walking paths. Additionally, ensure that the resort is easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs if needed.

Special Events and Entertainment

Families that enjoy attending special events and entertainment during their vacations should keep an eye out for resorts that regularly host family-focused activities, such as movie nights, themed dinners, or magic shows. These events create lasting memories for your family and provide a chance to bond as you share new experiences together.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to finding the perfect family-friendly resort, as every family is unique and has its own preferences and expectations. By using your checklist for choosing a luxury family-friendly resort, you’ll be well on your way to planning a memorable vacation that offers something for everyone. Happy travels!
